about

An original I wrote in 2016 smoking my last cigarette, digging out the last little bit of shake left in my bag. While I was out touring with NIck Dittmeier, the property management company called and said "your house has been sold, you have X days to vacate."

This tour lasted 20 days....so when I made it home, all of my roommates had already moved out, one of those roommates being Jake Groves, the current king behind a harmonica out there touring with my old boss, Mr. Colter Wall. I had zero idea what I was gonna do...but I knew that I had been in this position many many times over....it was the cycle. So I just started stringing lines together and it all fell out in about 15-20. It isn't a profound piece of writing, but it's the best I could offer at the time.

lyrics

My last cigarette is burning
And I just smoked the last of my shake
Every room in my house is empty
I got $34 to my name

Hardened beans line a bowl beside me
I just can't get outta this bed
I can still hear the echos of Jake Grove's harps
They line the inside of my head

And I guess it's time to go
Back to leanin' on the wind
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head again

My clothes hangin' in the closet
Ain't none of'em fit right no more
Probably throw'em in a bag--head down to Salvation Army
Leave'em for the thrifty and the poor

Cause all i really need is a good pair
Of blue jeans and my old dirty boots
A couple button down shirts--my old jean jacket
And I just might make it through

I guess it's time to go
Back to leanin' on the wind
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head again
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head

Long before I'm old and grey
And my tired body becomes a chore
When I finally--finally get four walls squared up
I hope it's you standin' at my door

And I guess it's time to go
Back to leain' on the wind
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head

I guess it"s time to go
Back to leanin' on my friends
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head again
Not knowin' where I'll lay my head again
